Eek!

Has it really been over a month since I last updated this thing? What happened to me? Oh yeah, that thing called motherhood! Ha! Amelia is almost eight months old now, and she's crawling, cruising and really close to walking. Ohmygosh, slow down, little girl!

For Memorial Day weekend, we went on our first beach vacation to the western side of Sicily and the town of San Vito Lo Capo. The weather was kinda crappy, so no swimming, but Amelia got to walk in the sand and dip her little baby piggies in the freezing cold water. Good times!

We stayed in a bungalow on a campsite: La Pineta and it was so unlike any other campsite I've ever been to (not that I've been to a lot of campsites or am a good judge of campsites or anything, but I digress...). It had a full on restaurant, pizzeria, espresso bar, amazing grocery/CVS like store... everything! It was crazy! And so occupied. It was definitely the.place.to.be this holiday weekend. Here are some pictures!

Road trip! From our house, it took about four hours to get there. Amelia was a champ and did great!

(oh, and I should take this opportunity to mention that no shoes made on planet Earth will fit my daughter's feet. They are long and skinny and nothing fits. They'll fit in length, but be way too wide, or they'll fit in width and be way too short. So, this summer we've decided that she'll go barefoot. Don't judge.)

I packed a little pool float, Amelia's swimsuit, a hat, and towel, fully expecting to swim for the first time with the baby, but the water was so absolutely freezing that all we could do was look at it. Oh well.

Since swimming was out of the question, we decided to head into the main part of the town and check out the beach. Amelia LOVED walking in the sand, and dipped her toes into the Med for the first time.



She was completely mesmerized by the waves coming in. She stared, and stared, and stared. Even when we started walking back to the car, she kept turning around to look at the water. It was really cute.


As we were wandering around town, a man selling gelato stopped us and gave Amelia her first balloon. He also started to unwrap a sucker for her, but I said no. He was surprised and said, "es frutta, es buena," as in, it's fruit, it's good. Not that kind of fruit!! He told me to take it for later. It's still in my diaper bag. Ha!

We have Amelia on a bedtime routine. She gets oatmeal at 7, a bath at 8, and then a book and a bottle. Since there wasn't a bath on the campgrounds, she got the next best thing - a sink bath!

The next day, the weather was a little better, but still overcast and windy. We headed to the beach and spent the day out there.



That evening, we went to dinner with some friends of ours. They have a baby a few months younger than Amelia, and Amelia loves her! It's cute! We checked out the next morning. Good times!
